Section 1 of 6

Physical Therapy Evaluation & Treatment

Orthopedic physical therapy built around the body you're trying to bring back. Whether you're a rower returning from a flipped single, a runner with a muscle tear, a parent who tweaked their back lifting kids, or anyone with an injury that's affecting how you move — we treat the actual injury and the patterns around it.

Low back pain

The most common rowing complaint. We address the disc, the soft tissue, AND the catch position that loaded it.

Shoulder injuries

Rotator cuff, impingement, post-flip recovery. Rebuilding range AND the pull mechanics that won't re-injure.

Knee pain

Patellar tracking, IT band, post-op rehab. Critical for rowers because the drive starts at the knees.

Hip mobility & pain

Hip flexor tightness, labral issues, post-replacement. Seat height and catch position need to fit the body in front of us.

Post-op rehab

Shoulder, knee, hip, spine. Bridge from "cleared" to "actually ready for the sport."

Neck & upper back

The compensations that show up in the lats and traps when something else upstream isn't working.

Your first session, in plain English.

One full hour, one-on-one with Adrien. Bring clothes you can move in. We'll look at range of motion, strength, the injury itself, and (if you're a rower) your technique. By the end of the hour, you'll have a written plan, an honest estimate of the work ahead, and an answer about whether what you came in for is fixable.

Where it happens: In person at our Rochester clinic, or virtually for New York State residents. Out-of-town travelers welcome for in-person — just give us a heads up so we can find a time.

How the framework applies to PT

Reset — out of pain. Hands-on work, exercises, and modifications until the symptom is gone or sustainable.

Restore — rebuild the foundation. The muscles around the injury, the patterns that fail under load, the form that needs to come back.

Reload — sport-specific load. We don't sign you off at "pain-free." You leave when you can actually do the thing you came in for.

About pricing and insurance

Rowing on the Square is out-of-network, cash-pay only. We don't bill insurance directly — but we do provide superbills you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement, and we accept HSA and FSA cards. Many clients get partial reimbursement; some get a lot. Out-of-town travelers can book in-person and submit the same paperwork.

Exact PT prices live on our Pricing & Insurance page — along with the comparison between concierge cash-pay and traditional in-network PT, and a downloadable Insurance Reimbursement Worksheet.

Rowing Performance Sessions

Coaching from a USRowing Level 3 coach who's also a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Same set of eyes for the biomechanics, the rigging, the physiology, and the small fixes that don't look like much until your splits come down. On the erg, on the water, or virtually anywhere a webcam works.

Video Consultation

A 30-minute call to discuss one rowing issue in depth. You send video ahead of time; we talk through it and you leave with 1–2 specific changes to try. Includes the recorded call and a follow-up email with demo video links.

Continuity Care — for clients who finish a package

Once you've completed a coaching or PT package with us, we offer a monthly continuity option: one 1-hour session per month plus access to Square Performance and all erg classes. It's how committed clients stay sharp between blocks. Ask us about it during your wrap-up session.

Why this combination is rare.

Most rowing coaches can correct your technique, but can't tell you that your hip mobility is the reason your catch keeps collapsing. Most physical therapists can identify the mobility issue but can't tell you which rigging change accommodates it. Adrien is trained in both, so the same set of recommendations covers the whole picture — biomechanics, rigging, training load, and the small adjustments that compound.

Section 3 of 6

Reset · Restore · Reload

Three phases. Built for rowers. Used for every client.

01

Reset

PT context: Get out of pain. Address the source, not just the symptom.

Coaching context: Identify the limiter. The biggest thing in the way of the goal — and what changes once we move it.

02

Restore

PT context: Rebuild the base — strength, mobility, neuromuscular control. The foundation that has to be there before sport-specific load goes back on.

Coaching context: Rebuild the technique — clean catches, connected drives, the patterns that translate from erg to water and back.

03

Reload

PT context: Add load. Add speed. Reintroduce the sport in a way the body can hold.

Coaching context: Push the ceiling — personal records, podiums, or hitting that 2K split you've been chasing for two years.

Erg Classes

Group rowing classes at our Rochester clinic. Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8 to 9 AM. Maximum 10 rowers per class — small enough that Adrien can correct technique in real time. Warm-up, rowing workout, weights, cool-down. All levels welcome, no rowing experience required.

What a class includes

Warm-up — mobility work specific to the day's pieces.

Rowing workout — programmed by Adrien for the group, with individual splits.

Strength block — complementary lifts to support the rowing.

Cool-down — recovery work you'll actually do because we did it together.

★★★★★
"Adrien is amazing! My overall assessment for rowing technique on the erg as well as in the boat was exactly what I needed finishing my season on the water and beginning my winter training."

★★★★★
"As a somewhat seasoned masters rower, Adrien's training was the exact program I had been looking for to develop my rowing speed and endurance. Her pre-scheduled workouts were easy to follow and provided me with a way to track my results. Even though her training was virtual, having her by my side felt like my coach and rowing advocate was right there."

"I went to Adrien for physical therapy after a muscle tear. Not only did she help me rehab my injury, but worked with me to improve my running and overall physical strength. Adrien listens and spends time with you, looking at the body as a whole in addition to the injury, helping you reach your goals (and beyond)."

Common questions

Quick answers.

How do I book an appointment?
Use the calendar on the relevant service section above — or book a free 15-minute strategy call first if you're not sure which service is right for you.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes — Rowing Performance Evaluations and 1:1 Coaching work virtually for anyone. PT is virtual only for New York State residents (state licensing rule); in-person at the clinic for everyone else, including out-of-town travelers.
Can I come in from out of town to see you?
Yes — we welcome out-of-town visitors for in-person PT evaluation or any in-person session at our Rochester clinic. Out-of-network coverage depends on your individual insurance plan; download the Insurance Reimbursement Worksheet on the Pricing page to check.
What should I wear to an evaluation?
Clothes you can move and row in — fitted enough that Adrien can see how your body moves, comfortable enough that you can do a full session. Sneakers are fine.
Do you treat non-rowers?
Yes. Roughly half of our PT clients aren't rowers — they come for general orthopedic care from a PT who looks at the whole body, not just the injury. We accept referrals from rowers' families, friends, and coworkers all the time.
How long does it usually take to feel better?
Depends on the injury — but most clients notice meaningful change inside the first 3–4 sessions. "Back to the sport at full level" usually takes longer; we'll give you an honest timeline at the end of your evaluation.
